Biography of Krea Sledge, J.D.
A native of central Illinois, Krea Sledge received her B.A. in English from Illinois State University before attending law school at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. During law school, Krea worked at Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation where she assisted her supervising attorney with divorce and custody cases. After tracking a study in Natural Resources, Krea graduated May 2001 with her Juris Doctor degree. Krea moved to northern Colorado shortly after graduation, and began working for Phillips Petroleum Company as a contract attorney in their development of coal bed methane gas. When her work with Phillips was complete, Krea took the position of associate attorney with a Greeley law firm where she worked primarily in the area of family law. After two years as an associate, Krea formed her own law firm.
Krea’s work experience is focused mainly in the field of family law, which includes divorce, legal separation, paternity, custody, child support, grandparent visitation, relocation, emancipation, pre-marital agreements, restraining orders and Dependency and Neglect cases. Through her work as a parent’s attorney in Dependency and Neglect cases, Krea participated in the Weld County Family Treatment Court where she assisted her clients in regaining custody of their children from the Department of Human Services. Krea also has experience with cases involving substance abuse/addiction, spouse/child abuse, termination of parental rights, abandonment, alienation, co-occurring disorders and mental health disorders/diseases.
Krea is a certified Child and Family Investigator (CFI), and is on the court-approved list of CFI’s for Weld County. As a CFI, Krea accepts state-pay cases for individuals who qualify under state standards for indigent clients. Additionally, Krea is a Parenting Coordinator and Child’s Legal Representative.
Outside of family law Krea has worked on cases involving debt collection, unpaid wages, landlord-tenant, driver’s license suspension, DUI, traffic infractions, municipal code violations, breach of contract, bankruptcy and mineral development to name a few.
Krea has volunteered her time as a mediator with the Weld County Small Claims Court mediation program, post-decree domestic relations mediation, and has presented at the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren clinic hosted by Weld County Legal Services.
